Laptops!

Needed Equipment:    Acer Aspire ONE D250-1165 - Atom 1.6 GHz - 10.1 " - 1 GB Ram - 160 GB HDD

Due to the conditions here, laptops work much better for us than desktops in the hospital.  Laptops tend to handle the heat a bit better, and handle the many many power spikes that we have in our electricity here each day (because of the internal battery) and lastly, they come with their own screen in a much smaller footprint than a desktop PC.  For all of these reasons we use laptops here at Loma de Luz in the hospital.  It seems like all of them have died over the past year.  While this is an exaggeration - we really need about ten more laptops.  These do not need to be new.  We would be very glad to have newer model used laptops.  Windows XP models with at least a Pentium 4 or equivalent processor would be wonderful.   We can accept these one at a time, or in lots - it makes no difference.  Please make sure that your unit is in very good shape and works on it before considering donating it as we do not have the ability to do advanced repairs (nor can we get the parts) here in the jungle.  Please email davef@lomadeluz.net with questions or if you can help with this project.

  1. I bought the predecessor to this one before I went to Iraq. I have also set up a couple of these for people prior to their deployments. They are cheap, very tough, and have a 10 hour battery life. http://www.buy.com/prod/eee-pc-seashell-1005ha-mu17-bu-atom-n270-250gb-hdd-1gb-ddr2-windows-7/q/loc/101/212502341.html

  2. Thank for the tip. I will certainly look into that. We need full size screens and keyboards and we need 32 bit (for now - I can't seem to get 64 bit to work with our existing legacy system). So we'll probably need to try and find some good used donations. No money at all right now for purchases. Thank you Aaron! Blessings! DF
